Where the city’s glitterati come to play, this chi-chi hot spot is entered via a jam-packed, bouncer-patrolled back alley. Patience is a virtue at these hallowed gates (get yourself on the guest list if you don’t want to wait outside all night), but for upscale clubbing, it’s worth the wait. The decor is a cut above: the foyer resembles a country club (complete with fireplace, antlers and leather armchairs); the main area is a baroque extravaganza, featuring flocked-velvet walls, bronze statuary and crystal chandeliers. The fabled ladies’ room recalls a French boudoir. The sophisticated crowd includes visiting celebs and VIPs; the cover (Friday $10, after midnight $15; Saturday $15, after midnight $20), strict dress code and pricey cocktails scare off the students. No wonder the dance floor is full of people who are too cool to dance; instead, they nod casually to the likes of Travis Barker and the Black Eyed Peas.
