The entrance suggests gritty: you must walk down an alleyway, past a security check and through an unmarked door. But the interior is more refined, featuring mock-leather wallpaper and sleek leather bar stools. There’s a lounge area for chilling out and two fully stocked bars (one backed by palm tree wallpaper, the other with more of a Victorian vibe); most clubbers steer clear of fancy cocktails and quaff straightforward vodka mixers (vodka and Frank’s Energy Drink, imported from Austria, is a best seller, $8.25) or Stella. At the back of the club, the small dance floor teems with energy. Clubbers dress casually—sneakers are de rigueur—allowing them free rein to go wild to the pounding electro, house, tribal and techno beats provided by guest DJs. The scattered empties of Frank’s and water suggest a long night ahead. Cover $5–$30.
