From the pink flamingo by the potted plants to the trailer trash mementos above the bar, this roadhouse-style restaurant is sheer camp. Crowds of giddy lesbians and gays use Zelda’s as a launching pad for clubbing. Most are drawn in by such peppy events as the Drag Idol contest (now in its seventh year) and Saturday’s Cheap Show, wherein contestants (as apt to be straight women as gay men) bare their butts for cash. In summer, the patio is a zoo, with patrons vying for the best view of Church Street.
