At Kensington’s slice of Kingston, Rastafarians and trustafarians (designer reggae devotees) rub dreadlocked shoulders. Though pictures of His Bobness hang on the faux wood–panelled walls (alongside faded beer ads and Jamaican beach scenes), this is really a temple for hard-core reggae disciples. Inside the dark space, crews of local DJs (such as Chocolate of 88.1 fame) spin remixed Ernest Ranglin grooves, Caribbean-flavoured hip hop, and dub so heavy your organs will shake; MCs are often on hand to chat up a storm. The bevy of beers includes a taste of the islands: imported Red Stripe stubbies and dark Dragon Stout. Grooves spill out onto the back patio, where a pungent mix of sweaty bodies and sacred herbs hangs in the night air. Cover $5 on Friday and Saturday.
