The awkward first date gets a leg up at this effortlessly sexy hideaway. Part martini lounge (a list of inventive libations is arguably the strip’s finest), part neighbourhood watering hole (regulars know staffers by name), the bar with the big brass globe over the door is one of the original purveyors of College Street cool. Today, a mix of super-coiffed scenesters, Value Village–clad artsy types and rowdy U of T students (many en route to a wild night of dancing at the nearby Mod Club) mingle to a soundtrack of louder-than-necessary house beats. At the other end of the evening, serial daters often swoop in for a final nightcap. A winterized patio provides some refuge.
