Smiling Buddha Bar

A curious blend of casual and quirky, this easygoing spot is one cool remove from College Street’s traditional see-and-be-seen offerings. Early in the evening, Canadiana-craving patrons can suck back $4.50 bottles of domestic and catch up on their curling while the nasal strains of hometown boy Neil Young play overhead. Later on, live rockers liven things up as they hit the stage at the back of the five-year-old 100-person space. Service can be slow on busy nights, but the eye-catching paraphernalia (mismatched furniture, Christmas lights and hanging Chinese lanterns) distracts thirsty customers while waiting for a shot of Johnnie Walker.
