Populated by impossibly bronzed French tourists, hotel guests in shorts and flip-flops, businessmen on their Berrys, stilettoed sylphs and clusters of office workers, the InterContinental’s elegant outdoor cocktail and tapas lounge—tucked away behind the hotel’s Bloor Street bar, Proof—offers respite to weary souls and fun-seekers alike, weather permitting. Made up of wide canvas umbrellas, wooden tables, and low-slung couches and chairs, the patio’s simple, sleek design is complemented by a carefully considered menu (the Cheese Tease offers four, six or eight varieties) and expansive drinks list (which features a range of Skypirinhas, Skymojitos, Skymixes, Skymartinis and Skybellinis, among other more customary selections). Highlights include a vodka, grapefruit, honey and basil concoction dubbed the Basilique Martini, and a mango–pink peppercorn mojito. As one after-work imbiber put it while she sipped her glass of rosé, “This was a very good bad idea.”
