Shakey’s Original Bar and Grill

A bar for serious Maple Leafs fans, Shakey’s was originally owned by Mike Walton, an ex-Leaf. And it shows in the decor. At the entrance, there’s an enlarged portrait of Queen Elizabeth greeting a former Leafs captain. Inside, the walls are covered with lots of team photos, players’ old paycheques and signed photographs of other pucksters (a young Wayne Gretzky is pictured with long, wavy, blond hair). When you’re not watching the game on one of the big-screen TVs, pretend you’re in a museum and check out the wooden sticks and WHA memorabilia. When the Leafs lose, the place seems like a memorial for a fading team. Still, you can drown your sorrows in the selection of beers and standard cocktails.
