Something of a Queen West institution, the Rivoli’s crowd is a relaxed mix of media types discussing Telefilm grants and weary shoppers stopping in for a quick drink. The restaurant is on the main floor (the kitchen is open late); drinkers congregate at the stainless steel bar in the adjoining space. In the back room, an intimate concert venue showcases local bands, comedy acts and spoken word artists; in its time, the storied stage hosted performances by everyone from local luminaries the Rheostatics to a pre-Scientology Beck. Upstairs, the cavernous 5,000-square-foot lounge and pool hall features 11 vintage tables ($8 per hour, one hour free before 5 p.m. with drink purchase), not to mention Kickass Karaoke every second Sunday evening.
