Paupers Pub

On weekends, this traditional pub feels like a boisterous undergrad common room. There are students everywhere. The main floor looks like a glammed-up neighbourhood pub: comfy red banquettes, a wrought iron bank teller’s cage around the bar, and old-fashioned street lights. For the best view, grab one of the banquettes on the raised platform; for a more romantic atmosphere, try the second floor on Thursday, Friday or Saturday night—it’s anchored by a lively piano bar. The rest of the week, the pub reverts to a giant sports bar, with two wall-size TVs and plenty of draft to quench the thirst (16 varieties, starting at $4.50 for a pint of domestic), as well as half-price apps from 3 to 6 p.m. On game nights, there are specials on draft beer and wings. In summer, folks jam the surprisingly lovely rooftop and ground-floor patios.
