The pinball machine and cheap bottles of brew (12 brands, $3.75 each) provide a homey respite from the College Street lounge scene around the corner. On game nights, seats near the big-screen TVs go fast, with hockey fans clamouring for the best view. Ever budget friendly, The Monarch has a 70-year-old tradition of allowing patrons to bring in outside food or have pizza delivered, but with the recent addition of Caplansky’s deli, the hungry head upstairs for smoked meat sandwiches, which are made with some of the best pastrami in the city.
