A great cheery hive of a room, with 18-foot ceilings, red and yellow walls, and an unimpeded view of the brew tanks, this Distillery District hot spot is the public face of east Toronto’s most famous brewery. It offers all the classic Mill Street lines, from Balzac’s Coffee Porter to the award-winning Tankhouse Ale, plus some cute martinis (peach cosmo, Candy Apple, $7.25) and a long list of single malts, from Aberlour to an 18-year-old Macallan ($6–$20). Waitresses in schoolgirl uniforms (knee socks, tartan skirts) patrol the floor, while Top 40 rules the stereo. An attractive but relaxed crowd, mostly sporting jeans, rugger shirts and baseball caps, floods out onto two huge patios in summer, and huddles in dark wood booths beneath giant flat-screen TVs in winter. There are specials every day of the week, including wings on Tuesday.
