The Local

Filling the sizable shoes of her Café May predecessors (who helped foster the fledgling careers of a few Broken Social Scenesters), owner Melissa Sexton maintains the original bar’s soul with Monday bluegrass night. Sexton has also infused some Queen West chic—chocolate-coloured walls, exposed brick, artwork on display and an expansive rosewood bar—into a strip better known for sports pubs. Moviegoers leaving the nearby Revue Theatre and other thirsty passersby drift in for a pint of KLB raspberry wheat ($6.75), while bar staff pour the perfect Guinness (schooled by Limerick-born Sexton) for regulars.
