Though steps away from Yonge and Wellesley, this easygoing resto-bar offers refuge from the downtown hustle and bustle. Formerly home to a sushi restaurant, the cozy space has retained a vaguely Japanese aesthetic, aided by a secluded kabuki room (seating 12 to 14) in the back. Popular concoctions include the potent Absenteeni—absinthe, cherry brandy, and cranberry and pear juices ($10.75). Hops fans can sample the rotating selection of microbrews available on tap (McAuslan Apricot Wheat, Unibroue Blanche de Chambly) and in bottles (St-Ambroise Pale Ale, Black Oak Nut Brown), the perfect companion to sunny afternoons spent people-watching.
