James Joyce Irish Pub

Despite the name, this Annex standby doesn’t feel particularly Irish, though there are paper shamrocks around the stage, and bartenders serve up draft Guinness and Kilkenny. Most of the regulars come for the classic bar food and the pints ($4.50–$6.50). Located on the doorstep of U of T, the pub draws a student-heavy crowd, no doubt lured by the pool tables; giant TV screens appeal to sports fans. But the Joyce caters best to lovers of live music. Every night at 10 p.m., the small stage plays host to local talent looking for a big break, who belt out a mix of Celtic and mainstream tunes.
