This downtown spot embodies the hoary old cliché, “the more things change, the more they stay the same.” Around the first-floor Aquarium bar, the clientele consists largely of tourists and regulars who seem to have been sitting there for centuries, while upstairs at the Library bar, students and motley intellectuals gather at ancient wooden tables. In summertime, the Imperial opens its charming rooftop patio; year-round, it boasts cheap drinks and a refreshing dearth of trend-setters. Great jukebox, too—the entire selection is made up of the owner’s personal collection of jazz 45s.
