An enduring cradle of rock ’n’ roll, the Horseshoe continues to resist the tide of electronica that has swept many a bar away from its grungy roots. In the cavernous back space, angsty musicians pour their hearts out onstage, as cheerful youngsters bent on having a good time fill the black and white tiles of the dance floor. What’s missing is a blue haze of smoke; that’s one tide even the Horseshoe couldn’t resist. Pull up a chair next to a multi-pierced regular and savour the melancholy atmosphere. No cover Monday and Tuesday; $5–$15 Wednesday to Sunday.
