The Hideout

When Irish-born brothers Jimmy and Danny Good took over the formerly cursed corner location at Queen and Denison (the site of such recent failures as Big Papa’s Bordello and The Blarney Stone), skeptics wondered if their laddish dream of a rock ’n’ roll pub and casual dining spot would last through the winter. Now well past its first frost, the thriving venue has become the place for live rock: a sort of swinging saloon dropped smack in the middle of hipper-than-thou Queen West. A rotation of mainly cover bands keeps the casual, dance-friendly, predominantly well-lubricated crowd on its feet in the front lounge section, while a back room—boasting just one well-used pool table—offers a slightly quieter place to sip your pint. Guinness, along with Stella, Amsterdam Blond and Labatt 50 are the standard libations of choice, although on wilder nights, Jäger shots are just as popular.
