Easy does it at Hemingway’s, an attitude-free oasis in pricey Yorkville. The decor blends industrial chic with country rustic (think exposed copper pipes mixed with rough wood panelling). Gas heaters add a cozy, warm glow during the winter months, as does the hearty dinner menu (try the New Zealand spring lamb). By contrast, the third-floor patio (enclosed during winter) is done up like a tropical haven, featuring lush greenery and man-made mist. But the key to the resto-bar’s longevity isn’t the decor, the star sightings (Eric McCormack, Russell Crowe) or the drinks (19 draft beers and a superb wine list). It’s the unpretentious atmosphere, courtesy of Kiwi owner Martin McSkimming, who’s decorated the place with paraphernalia from down under. On special occasions (Anzac Day, New Zealand Day), the Maori haka is performed; it’s a war dance, but we’re betting it’s a lot of fun. There are also live shows on winter weekends.
