Granite Brewery

Renowned among beer connoisseurs, the Granite specializes in British-style ales, bitters and stouts, brewed on-site (though standard bottled beers are available, too). Drinkers sit in the airy bar, the cozy library or on one of two patios. But many come to the Granite for the superior pub grub. In the back, the spacious dining room is adorned with dark wood trim and has loads of homey charm. Standard bar fare—including sandwiches, pasta, pizza, burgers, ribs and steaks—rises above the norm. Among starters, hot wings (one pound, $10) are plump and virtually greaseless. Keeping to the beer theme, the stout-enhanced burger—piled with sautéed mushrooms, jack cheese and peameal bacon—is deeply satisfying.
