Gladstone Hotel

This once derelict Parkdale hotel was reborn as a perfect spot for all things arty and cool. The Gladstone is living proof of the old maxim “if you refurbish the vintage hand-operated elevator, the hipsters will come.” And, in droves, too. There are multiple drinking spots: the karaoke machine has never stopped humming in the famous Melody Bar (which finally has decent bathrooms); the Art Bar is a charming, intimate space that can be booked for life drawing classes, poetry readings and local music performances; and the Ballroom Café, a sun-drenched restaurant, becomes a bar in the evening. But it’s the Gladstone Ballroom that steals the show. With its handsome exposed-brick walls, high ceilings and shiny wood interior, it’s a hot spot for private parties, funky fundraisers, book launches and NXNE performances, and a popular space for small film premieres.
