The Foundation Room

This decadent space feels like a cross between a Moroccan hookah bar and a Manhattan martini lounge. In fact, owner Jamil Kamal found all the furniture on a shopping spree in Marrakesh’s storied medina. A mirrored mosaic adorns one wall, and there are sapphire- and ruby-coloured lanterns, a blue marble bar and exotic wooden doors. Pillow-strewn low-slung banquettes complete the picture. The place was designed by Alessandro Munge (of Ultra Supper Club and Lux fame), and its music is of the desperately hip down-tempo variety, but Foundation Room is refreshingly unpretentious.
