The Embassy

Pitched somewhere between pub and diner, The Embassy is one of Kensington Market’s comfiest watering holes. A dearth of seating—a half-dozen banquettes, a couple of easy chairs, a threadbare couch and a small clutch of bar stools—means it’s standing room only at peak times; cocktail hour is more low-key. The decor style is vague but chic (a brick wall adorned with large gold and orange light boxes and, oddly, a pair of mounted longhorns), while the clientele is standard-issue market bobo. Beer is the libation of choice, with the requisite bottles (Moosehead, Stella) and a compelling set of taps (Wellington Dark, St-Ambroise Oatmeal Stout, Vice). Tunes from the likes of Broken Social Scene and Hank Williams provide the soundtrack.
