The Cock and Tail

Business and life partners Helen Tweddle and Trish Mutch want to make something clear: their brand new Queen Street baby is a pub, not a club. That means no cocktails, no lineups and no posing—no small feat in the Drake-ified west end. Looking to fill a niche in the area, the expats—Tweddle is British, Mutch Australian—rented and renovated the old Edaas gallery space and turned it into a welcoming neighbourhood hangout, complete with a rough-hewn wood bar, a multiplicity of local microbrews (Devil’s Pale Ale, Amsterdam Framboise, Mill Street Tankhouse Ale) on tap and in bottles, and a corner by the front window for live music. Local barflies have heard their call and answered happily, dotting the long, narrow space’s banquettes and stools well into the night.
