Just east of the martini bar strip, this tiny wood-panelled pub provides a refuge for beer drinkers. The only whiff of pretentiousness comes from the real ale snobs, drinking hand-pumped, cask-conditioned Wellington Best Bitter. There are 23 brews on tap and roughly the same number of patrons. It’s a laid-back crowd that settles into plush booths and high tables around the piano. Service is traditionally Irish, meaning you go to the beer rather than it coming to your table. The music is delightfully unpredictable, from DJs spinning Johnny Cash, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, reggae and ’60s soul to a piano, fiddle and bass band. Eat elsewhere on the strip before venturing in—the food here is as British as the beer. The adventurous might be tempted to try deep-fried pickles or Mars bars.
