Though billed as one of North America’s top pool venues by Billiards Digest, the Charlotte Room is something of a Toronto secret. Pool sharks appreciate the billiard leagues, lessons and seven tournament-quality tables. During the week, the crowd also includes graphic designers from the Fashion District and dot-com survivors from Peter Street; on weekends, clubbers stop by for cocktails en route to King West. The decor is upscale, with exposed brick walls and low lighting. So if you’re looking for wings with your game of eight ball, you’ll be disappointed: this place is a tad posh for greasy grub. The menu features chicken satay with Thai peanut sauce, and pancetta-wrapped tiger shrimp. The beer selection is cultivated, too; popular summertime picks include Blanche de Chambly. Martinis are the cocktail of choice.
