It’s hard to miss this Bloor West tavern: a horse head protrudes from the brick-and-glass façade. The bar oozes history: the building dates back to 1891, the Toronto City Council has listed it as a heritage building, and early 20th-century archival photos hang on the walls. Locals feed on such middle-of-the-road pub fare as steak sandwiches ($9) and quesadillas ($6). The popular weekend brunch features steak and eggs ($9) and veggie western omelettes ($8). The draft list is small and includes such standards as Wellington and Amsterdam, but it’s hard to beat a session with a pint and a newspaper on the Horse’s comfy back-room couch. There’s also a large, secluded rear patio.
