Meet Black Betty, The Fifth’s younger, wilder sister. This adjacent (but separate) space, a mecca for lovers of rock ’n’ roll, was designed when The Fifth underwent renovations in 2005. Swathed in dim red light, the room reaches capacity most weekends. The jeans and T-shirt crowd punches approving fists in the air and sings (or shouts) to the likes of Nirvana, Metric and Guns N’ Roses, while bartenders grab megaphones to call all willing ladies to dance atop the bar—or have a twirl around its brass pole. There’s no beer available on tap, but most patrons prefer shots of Jack Daniel’s ($7) anyway.
