Tucked away on a quiet stretch of Wellington near the Fashion District, this pub is worth seeking out. It’s as much café and candlelit bistro as cozy neighbourhood tavern—ideal for coffee fiends, martini sippers and beer swiggers alike. The decor is elegant (exposed brick, old-fashioned light fixtures, dark wood furniture and a vintage tin ceiling), but the atmosphere is laid-back (muted televisions broadcast the game). The crowd—a mix of unpretentious artsy types and condo hipsters—swarms the nostalgic wood and granite bar or retires to a table in one of the cozy corners. There are 11 draft beers, a list of 13 martinis and a selection of frothy coffees. The menu marries typical pub fare with exotic twists: Not So Classic chicken wings come in curry, Thai or barbecue flavours; pizza is topped with tandoori chicken on a tomato-yogurt crust; and frites accompany the 16-ounce Wellington burger.
