Soulpepper has chosen to remount its 2007 summer hit with the original cast intact. Its success is a testament to the power of sisterhood, perhaps—a sentiment that would be appreciated by Top Girls creator, British feminist Caryl Churchill. In the play’s renowned first act, hard-nosed exec Marlene (Megan Follows) is throwing a dinner party to fête her promotion, and she’s got quite the invite list: Victorian adventurer and writer Isabella Bird (Kelli Fox), rumoured ninth-century pontiff Pope Joan (Ann-Marie MacDonald), and Dull Gret, the subject of the eponymous Pieter Brueghel painting (Liisa Repo-Martell), among others.—Stéphanie Verge
