Stephen Sondheim takes on an important historical figure of his own in Sunday in the Park With George, his musical ode to French impressionist Georges Seurat (Steven Sutcliffe). Alisa Palmer directs this musical about the genesis of Seurat’s pointillist chef-d’oeuvre, A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte, his lady friend (the oh-so-aptly-named Dot, played by Julie Martell) and the couple’s would-be descendants.
