Old Trout Puppet Workshop’s production tickled and tormented Toronto audiences when it first travelled here from Calgary last fall, and was nominated for a Dora in the process. Made up of two-dozen vignettes—Edward’s Last Meal, Bipsy’s Mistake—about marionettes whose time is up, it deftly sidesteps the cutesy Muppet trap and sets up some genuinely moving and macabre moments.—Stéphanie Verge
