In the Canadian consciousness, some things are inextricably linked, for better or worse, with Newfoundland: screech, fishing, icebergs and punchlines. Andy Jones has made a career out of mining such stereotypes, first with the famed sketch comedy troop CodCo, and now with his own one-man shows. Uncle Val is a cantankerous retired fisherman who’s been uprooted from his outport home and forced to live in the metropolis of St. John’s with his daughter and her family. Lois Brown directs.
