The keening falsetto of Hayden Thorpe is one of the most wondrous sounds to emerge from the indie scene in recent years. The 24-year-old front man of this precociously talented English group, Thorpe has a few other things going for him, such as a knack for writing vivid, entrancing pop songs, like the kind that fill Two Dancers (2009), the Wild Beasts’ much-praised second album.—Jason Anderson
