The Ex is not necessarily where you’d expect to find these Newmarket indie faves—a sweaty Opera House is more like it. Even so, rocking out near the Tilt-a-Whirl seems more germane than the band’s highest-profile appearance last year: guest-starring on an episode of Desperate Housewives. Tokyo Police Club won’t need to worry about having any strange encounters with Nicollette Sheridan when they perform as part of a CNE music series that also features, on other dates, ’60s pop diva Petula Clark, Montreal ska kings the Planet Smashers and feisty punkette Shiloh.—Jason Anderson
