The guitar noise will undoubtedly be daunting when these three acts take the stage at Lee’s Palace for this feedback-friendly North by Northeast showcase. The much-anticipated headliner is Swervedriver, an Oxford-bred band that was part of the early ’90s wave of U.K. shoegazers, who liked nothing more than to create massive whorls of sound. After a decade-long hiatus, front man Adam Franklin recently reconvened the band to conduct a new series of sonic explorations. Among the many young groups happy to have Swervedriver back is the Handsome Furs, which has just recorded a split seven-inch single with Franklin. Montreal’s the Besnard Lakes shares the bill and will hopefully deliver an appropriately bruising set of heavy-duty symphonic psych outs. Reliably intense Toronto rockers Uncut are also on hand to start those eardrums ringing.—Jason Anderson
