Shining very brightly among the current pantheon of Canadian indie acts, many of whom the Montreal band counts as friends and collaborators, Stars was overshadowed by several members’ participation in Broken Social Scene until the breakthrough success of Set Yourself on Fire (2004). With their stylistically ornate yet emotionally intimate pop, these celestial beings have helped make it fashionable for their compatriots to wear their hearts on their sleeves, too.—Jason Anderson
