Pocahaunted

One of a number of new acts with a dreamy, droning sound dubbed “hypnagogic pop,” this Californian band is weird and wondrous. Its Island Diamonds (2008) is a smeary smattering of psychedelic swirls, noisy abstractions and trance-inducing rhythms. Despite the band’s move into funk territory, it’s still too woolly for some listeners, but Wavelength regulars are eager to take the trip.—Jason Anderson
