Norah Jones

It’s not as if the low-key jazz-pop chanteuse has gone heavy metal, but a change in Norah Jones’ personal life has certainly provoked a change in musical direction. Her first disc to be recorded without her bassist, co-songwriter and now ex-boyfriend Lee Alexander, The Fall (2009) includes collaborations with alt-rock maverick Ryan Adams and Okkervil River’s Will Sheff. Mellow though they may still be, the songs display an edgier sensibility than her yuppie make-out music of years past.—Jason Anderson
