Neil Young turned 63 last month. But just because one of the greatest living rock icons is entering his golden years doesn’t mean he’s grown any less mercurial. Among Young’s recent provocations was following up the gentle country-tinged Prairie Wind (2005) with Living With War (2006), a vociferous collection of Bush-bashing anthems. His performances of the more recent offerings while on tour with Crosby, Stills and Nash rankled many boomer fans—but Neil being Neil, he was all too happy to feature their indignant responses in his 2008 documentary CSNY/Déjà Vu. His latest Toronto appearance should be a less volatile affair, seeing as opening act Wilco will attract the younger end of Young’s multi-generational fan base.—Jason Anderson
