Originally a quartet of Mexican-American childhood pals from East L.A., these Grammy winners have been performing a borderless brand of roots music since 1973. On such richly memorable discs as Kiko (1992), Good Morning Aztlán (2002) and The Town and the City (2006), Los Lobos has easily shifted between blues, country, traditional Mexican music, raw rock ’n’ roll and more sounds that aren’t so easily categorized. That they continue to find new ways to challenge themselves and their listeners may be the most remarkable thing about them.—Jason Anderson
