Bearing the names of both his dad, Steve Earle, and alt-country icon Townes Van Zandt can’t be easy for this 28-year-old troubadour. Yet Justin Townes Earle has handily fulfilled some big expectations with his first few albums, which showcase a performer who’s as comfortable playing old-school honky-tonk as he is covering a college-rock classic by The Replacements.—Jason Anderson
