Judging by his solo recordings, the erstwhile Tea Party front man retains his love of moody rock atmospherics, big guitars and Middle Eastern musical flourishes. In fact, his album Live in Brisbane 2006 documents his fruitful collaborations with Ritesh Das and the Toronto Tabla Ensemble. The disc also reflects Martin’s popularity in Australia, where the Tea Party was a very big thing. He returned there late last year to preview material from his recent disc, The Armada (2008).—Jason Anderson
