JAMAICA TO TORONTO

Put together by an intrepid DJ named Kevin “Sipreano” Howes, Jamaica to Toronto (2006) was a truly revelatory compilation album that celebrated the rich but neglected history of music by Jamaican newcomers to the city in the 1960s and early ’70s. The album’s success has encouraged many of those performers to return to the stage for the first time in decades, and the Global Grooves series at Yonge-Dundas Square is the latest in a string of shows under the JA to T.O. banner. Here’s a chance to say welcome back to Jay Douglas and Everton “Pablo” Paul, both of whom played with legendary keyboardist Jackie Mittoo in the late-’60s reggae band The Cougars.—Jason Anderson
