Matching brawn with brains, these two acclaimed American rock acts make for terrific tour mates. The Hold Steady imbues the anthemic quality and vivid storytelling of Bruce Springsteen in his prime with a wry sensibility that has made singer-guitarist Craig Finn a hero to nebbishy indie boys everywhere. Georgia’s Drive-By Truckers root their sound in the greasy ’70s southern rock of Lynyrd Skynyrd but defy redneck stereotypes with songs that are full of wit and empathy for common folks just trying to get by. —Jason Anderson
