Shining a light on the music world’s fringes, the X Avant Festival scores a coup by hosting the first Canadian appearance by a pivotal act in the ’70s German rock scene known as Krautrock. Comprising Hans-Joachim Roedelius and Dieter Moebius, Cluster was a brave pioneer of ambient and electronic music both on its own recordings and on several collaborations with Brian Eno. Long inactive, the duo reunited in 2007 to perform at the Documenta 12 art festival in Kassel, Germany.—Jason Anderson
