Canada Day at the Harbourfront Centre

A lineup of players from Canada’s African refugee communities and seasoned members of the country’s indie-rock scene make for an unpredictable program at Harbourfront. Co-sponsored by Amnesty International, the event includes afternoon performances by Sudanese-Canadian singer-songwriter Ruth Mathiang and Toronto-based Ethiopian performer Kemer Yousef. In the evening, rockers rule the stage as Calgarian Chad VanGaalen and ever-ferocious locals The Constantines celebrate their native land’s 142nd birthday.—Jason Anderson
