Friends who regularly tour together, these two rising Cana­dian acts are a noteworthy double bill. Attack in Black has shed the punky trappings of its early recordings to embrace hardy heartland rock. And like pal Dallas Green of Alexisonfire—who’s involved members of the band in his popular City and Colour project—Attack in Black is not afraid to show its folkier inclinations, as proven with the fine acoustic album The Curve of the Earth (2007). A quartet from Vancouver, Ladyhawk goes for a fuzzier sound but has the same earnest charm.—Jason Anderson
