Three luminaries of music’s international avant-garde hook up here in duo and trio form for an intriguing meeting of minds. A Japanese sound artist famed for his manipulations of audio technology—especially the passé medium of cassette tapes—Aki Onda has enjoyed a fertile and sonically unpredictable partnership with Alan Licht, a New Yorker who uses his guitar to create a spellbinding variety of sounds. While in Toronto, they perform with hometown fixture Michael Snow, who’s been known to do any manner of things to his collection of pianos and synthesizers.—Jason Anderson
