A Vince Guaraldi Holiday

A talented if little recognized jazz pianist when his composition “Cast Your Fate to the Wind” achieved hit status in 1962, Vince Guaraldi was then commissioned to score the first Peanuts television special, A Charlie Brown Christmas. Guaraldi’s spare and infectious melodies became an essential component of the TV specials until his death in 1976, and that original Peanuts score remains a seasonal favourite. In this Jazz.FM Sound of Jazz concert, Guaraldi’s music is interpreted by pianist Robert Scott, who’s leading a quartet with saxophonist Gene Hardy, bassist Brandi Disterheft and drummer Great Bob Scott.—Stuart Broomer
